FUNDRAISING AND SPECIAL EVENTS
The Friendship Project hosts special events throughout the year, many of which are fundraisers for the Project. If you have a fundraising idea, or would enjoy lending a hand at our special events, fill in the form at the bottom of the page and we will be in touch!
FRIENDSHIP CIRCLES
A supportive team of 3 or 4 individuals who share the role of spending quality time and developing friendships with a young adult from the Friendship Project.
Friendships are a valuable part of a fulfilling life! Spending time one-on-one with a young adult from the Friendship Project is more than just a volunteer position, it is an opportunity to develop and maintain a lasting and meaningful relationship. Friendship matches are based on mutual interests and lifestyles. Going out for dinner or coffee, festivals, movies, swimming, video games, crafts, and cycling are a few examples of the ways Friendship Project participants enjoy spending their time. If you have a hobby or interest that you would like to share, or if you just enjoy spending time with others, The Friendship Project would love to hear from you!
Individuals are asked to commit to meeting with the young adult at least once a month. Friendships are supported by the Friendship Project Facilitator to ensure that things are going smoothly and to help address any concerns.
Major Objectives:
I. To support the young adult in growing and maintaining meaningful friendships.
II. To offer opportunities for the young adult to engage in new communities and circles.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Meet with the Friendship Project Facilitator to discuss potential friendship matches. Review volunteer job outline and fill in Criminal Record Check.
2. Spend between 1 to 3 hours per month doing an activity you and your friend choose.
3. Keep your Friendship Circle (the 3 or 4 volunteer friends) up to date on your scheduled activities through an online calendar.
4. Provide ongoing communication to the Friendship Project Facilitator, especially surrounding concerns within your friendship.
5. Meet with the ‘Friendship Circle’ volunteers and the Friendship Project Facilitator twice a year to connect and discuss the best way to support the friendships moving forward
Qualifications:
1. Transportation (by personal car or bus) is necessary.
2. No experience with developmental disabilities is required.
Length of Commitment:
Ultimately we hope that the friendships will be on-going and mutual, but The Friendship Project recognizes that life situations fluctuate. As with any friendship, circumstances may change. We ask interested individuals to enter into this position as they would any friendship they hoped to nurture over a period of time.
